A little bit about me
Artymess Lorna Jones
I have been working with fabric and thread and needles since I was knee-high to my Grandmother's Sewing machine.
I learned to knit, sew and crochet and a lasting memory was steam blocking a felt hat for my Sindy doll. my Grandmother was a headmistress, keen seamstress and a talented milliner.
Her house was filled with fabric and threads and balls of multi coloured wool. (A bit like mine is now)
When I left school I attended Swansea College of Art for three years where I studied Graphic Design and Illustration, specialising in Botanical illustration. After college I worked as an archaeological illustrator until I started a family in 1979.
While I was bringing up my 4 children I attended many art/craft classes, keeping my skills up to date and in 1984 bought my first knitting machine and started a business making jackets and hats. I sold through craft shops and private commissions.
I then started working in an art dept at a local school, then went on to teaching textiles alongside taking a textile degree. I graduated with a first class BA Hons in Textiles for Fashion and taught in a secondary school for 10 years. I am now a full time Textile Artist teaching textiles in workshop settings for many different groups.
I am currently based at The Courthouse in Eastleigh, Hampshire.
